DMUGA Week 22 - Temple Building (FMP #9)

Weekly Summary:

It has been a good week due to the amount of level and mind progress. We all feel in a good place (Still a lot to do, though!), and know what we need to do in order to keep making progress through the coming week. We finally moved onto fully focusing our efforts into the courtyard and getting that sorted as our main priority.

Monday - Wednesday:

The first thing was changing the harsh saturation of the post process which was detracting from the scene.

I blocked out Denises temple designs on Monday (forgot the screenshot) and they just weren't working for what we were going for, so Andy came up with some modular pieces which had more of the look we are going after. I helped Andy with his tree by partly retopologising it and unwrapping. The front door head sculpt was finished by Tuesday, and I finished sculpting the feathers on Wednesday.

Andy worked on the tree trunk, and we talked for a while on how we were going to go about building the temple. He had the modular pieces ready for me to begin blocking out in engine for the Thursday.

Dom spent some time on Monday trying to solve the 'unnatural' look we had going on in the post process/lighting and he got it to look better than last week, but the atmosphere just felt flat, so we decided to keep what we already and carry on (No comparison shot available).

He fixed the branch spread on the tree tool, so now it looks more natural and we can now make a bent branch plane and use the tree tool fully as intended. This is working in Dom's version of the engine, although, I do not have a copy to show. He made a material function for the directional light to make it appear as if clouds were blocking out the sunlight, casting shadows over the ladnscape, and also started the crafting mechanic!

Thursday - Friday:

I retopologised the larger door feathers, baked and textured them. I began using the modular parts from Andy to build part of the temple in UE4. Some issues arose with them not snapping together so Andy had to go back and fix them. Andy and I also tried to come up with a better solution for the layout of the courtyard nd so we're just trying different ones to see which one we think is most fit. Lastly, I made some patterns for us to use on our sculpts and textured the pot:

Andy started perparing the modular meshes ready for sculpting and began to sculpt on them. Hopefully if we texture them well, we should get a really nice result.

Dom worked on the crafting mechanic and got it to a stage where all we need are the actual assets used in the crafting and it's pretty much done. He also made the opening scene where the player gets up out of the 'shack'.
